This workshop weaves together lecture and dance to honor the genre that swept the world during the Jazz Era. You will know the key players and their roles in turning Jazz and Big Band music into the dances we know as SWING. When we say "Swing" we are referring to an umbrella of dances born in Black communities in Harlem during the 1920's-1940's. You will learn the differences in these styles, their fundamental movements, rhythms, and techniques. The workshop uses dance as a platform to tell the story of the politics, economics, and racial inequities of the United States.
